The golf tournament, whose ideologist became the Russian professor Sard Sardarov, was successfully held in the second half of June in the Cape Kaliakra region in Bulgaria.

When we talk about “golf in Bulgaria”, we mean the region, located 60 km north of Varna, on the Black Sea coast called Cape Kaliakra.

In 2016, in honor of Mr. Sardarov’s 70th anniversary, the Sardarov Cup was organized in the Cape Kaliakra Open golf tournament, where the Balkan team and the international team are fighting for the title of the strongest.

With the support of the Kaliakra Golf Foundation and the Bulgarian Golf Association, the competition took place on the three best golf courses in the region and invariably attracts the attention of a large number of foreign golfers.

“In 2011 my family spent the summer in Bulgaria and fell in love with this country. In 2013, we became residents of the Lighthouse Golf & Spa Resort.

To confess, rarely on Earth, there are three magnificent and absolutely different golf courses, combined with amazing beauty and sea space.

I wanted to show this beauty to other golf lovers and make a holiday for them and for myself. This is how the idea of ​​the Cape Kaliakra Open tournament was born, which was supported by the golf clubs and personally by CEO and the founder of Lighthouse Golf, Georgi Chuklev.

We created the Fondacia Kaliakra Golf Foundation in order to raise funds for the idea and the things happen.

The slogan of the tournament is: “No Age, No Limits!”

Now the golf tournament is a successful project that is constantly evolving. The number of participants varies from 120 to 180 golfers, representing up to 23 countries. 40% of people return to the tournament annually.

This year’s tournament was held from 21 to 24 June with the participation of 120 players from 15 countries. Depending on the handicap group, the participants fought for a trophy in two formats: stroke play and stableford.

The best in the first handicap was the Romania’s representative Darius Podobea with a score of 226 hits for the three game days. In the second group with 97 points the local golfer Todor Kostov became the first. In the third handicap group, the prize podium was entirely occupied by the fair sex, where Veronika Calabozova from Czech Republic (with 95 points) was the most successful.

The last stage will be remembered with an unexpected hole par 3 “signature hole”, located at the end of a steep cliff on the Thracian Cliffs golf course.

The tournament ended with a grand award ceremony and awards from partners: Omega watches, Apple’s IT giant, Garmin, Turkish Airlines and BMW, as well as the Alain Dusasse restaurant
